Sony Computer Entertainment President, Kazuo Hirai has a lot more responsibility on his plate as he replaces Sir Howard Stringer as President of the Sony Corporation
Sony are all set to enter a new era by announcing that the top most leadership is set to change over the next few weeks, as the current President of the Sony Corporation is set to step down from his post with a replacement already waiting in the wings.
Sir Howard Stringer, the current President and CEO of the consumer electronics giant has had a turbulent time at the helm of Sony with a number of incidents plaguing the company.
The most serious of which was the security breach by a hacking group who allegedly stole user details and passwords from the Sony server. This led to the PlayStation Network, Sony’s online digital distribution platform being shut down for over two weeks.
In the end Sony reported that the temporary removal of the service cost resulted in the company losing over $170-million.
However, Stringer’s replacement, Mr. Kazuo Hirai, was quick to declare his support for the soon to be former president.
Hirai said, “As challenging as times are for Sony now were it not for the strong leadership of Sir Howard Stringer these past seven years, we would have been in a much more difficult position.”
Hirai who is currently the President of Sony Computer Entertainment, which is the division responsible for developing everything PlayStation related, is set to take over the role as President of Sony on the 1st of April.
Commenting on what his vision for the company was Mr. Hirai stated that he wanted to push the company in terms of its electronics portfolio.
“The foundations are now firmly in place for the new management team and me to fully leverage Sony’s diverse electronics portfolio, in conjunction with our rich entertainment assets and growing array of networked services, to engage with our customers around the world in new and exciting ways”.
It should be an exciting time for PlayStation users as the change in management coincides with the eminent arrival of the next generation of consoles.
