Kazakh, Uzbek boxers show might in Asian Games
Fighters from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan posted wins on the second day of the 2010 Asian Games boxing competition on Wednesday.
Serik Sapiyev and Danabek Suzhanov led the Kazakhs by stopping their respective opponents. Sapiyev outclassed Qatar's Hzam Nabah in the men's 69kg category. He scored seven points in the first round and
added three more in the second, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
Suzhanov was equally impressive in the 75kg class. He dominated Palestine's Sobhi Sukkari 17-1 before the fight was stopped in the third round.
Sharing the spotlight with the Kazakhs were the Uzbeks.
Hurshid Tojibaev showed no mercy as he stopped Timor Leste's Henrique Martins Borges in the third round of their 60kg showdown. The Uzbek led 19-0 before the bout was halted.
Abbos Atoev overcame jeers from the crowd to edge China's Zhang Jianting 8-7 in their thrilling fight in the 75kg division. Atoev led 4-0 after the first round but failed to score in the second as Zhang
piled up two points. The two fighters fought intensely in the final round with the Chinese prevailing 5-4. But it was not enough as Atoev escaped with a one-point win.
Also victorious in the 60kg class were Turkmenistan's Amangeldi Hudaybergenov, who beat Pakistan's Nawaz Dad Khan 10-4 and India's Krishan Vikas, who whipped Thailand's Ardee Saylom 8-1.
Cambodia got a rare win when Sophat Phal dominated Laotian Andy Sivongsack 13-2. In other bouts, Iran's Forootan Golara stopped Nepal's Shrestha Dinesh while Bhutan's Wangdi Chencho downed Macau’s Wu Chi
Kit 10-2.
In the 69kg division, Pakistan's Arshad Hussain needed only one round to dispose of Palestine's Altaramsi Ahmed. He will next face Filipino Wilfredo Lopez, who ousted Bangladeshi Suruz Bangali 5-1.
Joining them in the last 16 were Thai Apichet Saensit, who beat Kyrgyzstan's Maksat Alimbaev 5-1 and Taiwanese Chang Wei-jen, who sent home Indonesian Alex Tatontos 13-4. Also advancing was Malaysian HJ
Mohd Haron Muhamad Farkhan, who scored a 5-2 win over Nepalese Tamang Ratna Bahadur.
In the 75kg category, Mongolian Shinebayar Narmandakh edged 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Suriya Prasathinphimai of Thailand 2-1 while Iran's Mohammad Sattarpour crushed Nisar Khan of Pakistan 16-1.
Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Vijender Singh of India lived up to expectations as he eliminated Chinese Taipei's Yang Yu-ting 9-4.
The boxers in the 81kg division also showcased their skills on Day 2. China's Meng Fanlong blanked Mongolian Sandagsuren Erdenebayar 10-0 while Kyrgyzstan's Chingis Borbashev conquered Turkmenistan's Rasul
Yuldashev 8-1.
