Kazakh wins 120kg Greco-Roman gold in Asian Games
Nurmakhan Tinaliyev prevented Iran from claiming another gold medal in the Asian Games Greco-Roman wrestling competition on Tuesday.
The Kazakh defeated Iranian Amir Aliakbari 3-1 in the semi-final of the 120kg category before beating China's Liu Deli 3-0 to win gold.
Tinaliyev won the central Asian nation's first gold in the wrestling competition. His other victims were Cambodian Chum Chivinn 5-0 and India's Dharmender Dalal 3-0.
Murodjon Tuychiev of Tajikistan and Salman Ali of Iraq shared the bronze medals. Tuychiev prevailed over Jordan's Marafi Hani 3-1 while Ali beat Dalal 3-0.
Iran earlier won four golds in the Greco-Roman events. Omid Noroozi won the 66kg division while Saeid Abdvali ruled the 66kg category. Taleb Nematpour ruled the 84kg class while Goldasteh Babak Ghorbani
topped the 96kg division.
Two golds were also contested in the men's freestyle events on Tuesday. Dilshod Mansurov of Uzbekistan topped the 55kg division. The Uzbek beat North Korea's Yang Kyong-il 3-1 in the final.
Mansurov reached the final by defeating Yemen's Basheer Al Yamani (3-0), Iran's Hassan Rahimi (3-0) and South Korean Kim Hyo-sub (3-0).
Yang progressed to the gold medal bout by defeating Filipino Jerry Angana (4-0), Mongolian Tsogtbaatar Damdinbazar (3-1) and Japanese Yasuhiro Inaba (3-0).
Inaba and Kim claimed the bronze medals after posting wins over Damdinbazar (3-0) and Iran's Hassan Rahimi (3-1), respectively.
Ganzorig Mandakhnaran avenged Damdinbazar's defeat by claiming the gold in the 60kg division. The Mongolian outclassed Japanese Hiroyuki Oda 5-0 in the final.
Mandakhnaran beat Iran's Saied Ahmadi Zarinkolaei (3-1), Yemen's Abdulrahman Farhan (3-1), and China's Gao Feng (3-1) to reach the final.
Oda reached the final by posting wins over Kyrgyzstan's Bazar Bazarguruev (3-0), North Korean Ri Jong-myong (3-1) and Kazakhstan's Dauren Zhumagazyyev (3-1).
Gao and Zhumagazyyev won the bronze medals. The Chinese beat Zarinkolaei 3-1 while Zhumagazyyev prevailed over Ri on a similar score.
Iran still leads the medal standings with four golds and one bronze medal. Japan and Kazakhstan are in second spot with a 1-2-3 harvest.
At fourth spot is Kyrgyzstan with a 1-1-1 production. Uzbekistan is ranked fifth with a 1-0-1 output.
Other countries that made it to the medal table were Mongolia (1-0-0), South Korea (0-2-3), China (0-1-2), North Korea (0-1-0), India (0-0-2), Iraq (0-0-1) and Tajikistan (0-0-1).
The wrestling competition will continue on Wednesday with medals up for grabs in the men’s freestyle 66kg, 74kg and 84kg weight divisions.
