Kazakhastan losses to Serbia in last match of Round 1 - Volleyball
The disappointed captain of the Kazakhstan, Korinna Ishimtseva, talked to the media after her team dropped the last match of first round to Serbia on Sunday, August 7. Kazakhstan badly flopped in the first week of the 2011 FIVB Grand Prix Preliminaries.
They were grouped together with Serbia, China, and defending champions USA in Pool D. The Kazak ladies gave an appearance in three matches but could not prove their endeavours. China, United States, and Serbia defeated them, respectively.
Team Kazakhstan entered the 2011 FIVB Grand under the command of head coach Terzic Zoran. He compiled a team of best players from all across the country and hoped to catch the limelight at the international event. However, the fact remained the same that
Kazakhstan is an underdog team and it needs some miracle to draw world’s attention towards it.
In the last match on Sunday, they met powerhouse Serbia and received 0-3 (19-25, 15-25, and 22-25) defeat. Serbs proved to be better side in every aspect of the game and totally dominated the opponents. Kazak team relied on Radmila Beresneva and Natalya
Kulinich in the first set. Both these players put up spirited effort and took their score of 19. Anyhow, the strong attack of Serbian Sanja Malagurski led her team to success in first set.
Serbians launched complete authority on Kazaks in the second set and extended their lead to 2-0. Kazakhstan offered good competition to Serbia in third set and came really close on the scoreboard. Nonetheless, Serbs were quick to hit the finish line with
3-point margin and announced match victory. Radmila Beresneva was the top scorer in Kazak team. She registered 9 points via frequent attack-attempts. Sanja Malagurski of Serbia led all the scores with maximum 16 points, which she scored on 12 attacks, three
blocks and one serve.
Kazakhstan coach Bakhytzhan Baitureyev dropped out his thoughts about the match. He commented: “We had a great experience through playing with these strong teams. We will continue to train harder and hope to be better and better.”
The Team Captain of Kazakhstan Korinna Ishimtseva said: “We had a good lesson and accumulated experience during these three matches. I hope we can do better in the next round.”
Kazakhstan will now move to Pool F along Italy, Brazil and Thailand. All of the pool members have better ranking points except Kazakhstan. The next leg of the tournament is scheduled to start on Friday, August 12. Kazak team will have to cope with the power
of Italians in the opening match of second week. There is a lot of hard work that Kazakhstan will have to do in the second week matches. Let’s see how they manage the situation.
Good luck
