Kazakhstan, Algeria will vie for empty slot of World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has disclosed the information about an empty slot in the 2011 FIVB Women’s World Grand Prix.
The news was officially released from the headquarters of the FIVB in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday, 05 April 2011. The 2011 edition of FIVB Grand Prix will invite 16 teams from across the globe. The first 15 teams have already reserved their berths on
account of their ranking points or via success in qualification tournaments.
The FIVB has offered a unique opportunity to Kazakhstan and Algeria to fill in the 16th empty slot of 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix. According to the proposed plan, the teams from both countries will contest their abilities in two playoff matches.
In order to qualify for the World Grand Prix, one side has to beat the other with a score of 2-0. In the case of tie, a golden set will be played which will decide on the more deserving team for this position. Now Algeria and Kazakhstan will cross their
ways in the playoffs. This is for the first time in 19 years that FIVB has introduced this new formula to promote the better team in the competition.
The 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix is set take place in the month of August. The first two rounds will be hosted by several cities, while the final round is scheduled to be held in Macau, China. Teams from Brazil, Cuba, Thailand, Korea, Italy, Germany, Russia,
Poland, Serbia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Argentina, China and Japan have been confirmed for the competition, whereas the 16th slot will be filled either by Kazakhstan or Algeria.
The playoff matches for the 16th slot will take place from 12-14 May. The Salle Chaalane Hocine competition hall in Algerian city of Blida will host the thrilling matches. This is the high time for both teams to get prepared for the upcoming scrimmage and
demonstrate a better play. Algeria was placed at 21st position at the 2010 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Japan.
On the other hand, Team Kazakhstan had the equal points in the World Championship last year.
However, they have already marked their presence in the World Grand Prix. They participated in the 2007 World Grand Prix and captured 10th position. The very next year, they moved to the 12th position. Kazakhstan is slightly better than Algerian team but
they will have to prove their endeavours in the playoffs.
