Kazakhstan, Iran, Myanmar clinch success on day-3 of the AVC Club Championship – Volleyball News
Last year's runner-up of the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship, Kazakhstan, exhibited a winning performance against India on Monday and bagged 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19) victory.
Chinese city Shanghai provided the backdrop for the match, where good number volleyball enthusiasts showed up. Kazakhstan was quick to claim the opening stanza of the match. Killing spikes and deadly aces of Kazakhs created a lot of trouble for Indian players.
Kazakhstan ended first set by sending 25-20 on board.
Following the loss of opening set, India retaliated in an aggressive tone. Indians hit the ball from all angles and tried to cover the deficit. In the meantime, Kazakhstan resisted in full force and refused to lose the spot. As a result, the two teams exchanged
long rallies and score shifted up with close intervals. Eventually, India got lucky to put an end to the tussle with set points at 25-23.
Kazakhstan's head coach Gilyazutdinow Rafael looked satisfied with the match result, but he was not very happy with his team's performance. He stated: "We were not in top form, not 100 percent ready today. In some technical elements like blocking, we were
not good enough. India had some national team players on the team. But they also had some weak points, for example, their setting and blocking.”
However, the Indian head coach Arun Kumar Sood acknowledged the better status of Kazakh team and congratulated them for victory. He urged his team give out an improved performance in the coming matches. India is scheduled to take on Indonesia in the next
match on Tuesday.
In another match on Monday, defending champions Iran took on Qatar. The match spanned over four sets and finally ended in Iran’s favour. Qatar fought bravely, but failed to overcome the resilient rival. The final set scores were 3-1 (25-20, 29-27, 24-26,
25-16).
Iran's Head Coach Ataei Behrouz expressed delight about the success of his team. He also expressed high hopes for the Asian title win, but stressed that the Iranian team should be fully prepared for the upcoming matches.
Iran's team captain Nadi Alireza said: "I am satisfied with with our team's performance in this championship. Our team is more experienced than others as we had played many major Asian competitions."
