Kazushi Yamada beats Sai Praneeth in the second round of the Badminton Asia Championships 2011
Japan’s Kazushi Yamada defeated Sai Praneeth B. of India in the second round of the Badminton Asia Championships 2011 men's singles, on Wednesday, April 20, at Sichuan, China.
In the round-of-16, Kazushi will meet the third seed, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand, who defeated Han Chou Chu of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the event.
The 10th seed, Kazushi, showed no mercy to the young Indian and finished up the match in two sets. The Indian, who is a back-up shuttler of the Indian National mens single's squad, played superb badminton in the opening part of the first set.
He remained toe-to-toe with Kazushi and reached 9-9, where the Japanese took charge of the game and took a two-point lead, taking the score to 11-9.
Praneeth used all his skills and leveled the score but the Japanese played a better game proving his dominance over the Indian. Kazushi extended his lead and reached 17-11, where Praneeth narrowed the gap by scoring three points in a row and reached at 14-17.
The 10th seed finished the second set by consuming just 17 minutes in the court with a 21-17 margin.
In the second set, Kazushi continued his positive approach and established a comfortable lead of 7-1. Praneeth was unable to break the flow of the Japanese, who was playing a positive game by keeping the pace high. The Indian struggled hard to reduce the
gap but failed to match the speed of Kazushi. At the interval of the second game, the Japanese was ahead of the Indian at 11-6.
After the one-minute interval, Kazushi continued his progressive run by extending his lead. Praneeth was quite helpless against the experienced Japanese who was manipulating all weaker areas of the opponent. Kazushi remained ahead of Praneeth in the entire
set and spared no opportunity, at any stage, for the Indian to come back in the match.
He finished the second game with a clear margin of 21-13, in just 14 minutes. The ending score of this 31-minute battle was 21-17 and 21-13.
