Kazuya Kaneda seizes Men’s 200m butterfly gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Kazuya Kaneda of Japan seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day five of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday, December 16.
The Japanese star showered his expertise in the distant butterfly discipline as he proved his eligibility for the title of the race. He faced strong contest from Laszlo Cseh in the first half but with his notable efforts in the second half, Kaneda snared
the crown.
Kaneda enjoyed a half body length lead over his toughest challenger and touched the wall for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 51.01 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Cseh, who stayed 0.65 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal with the timing of 1 minute and 51.66 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, who stayed almost 0.70 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 52.33 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Yuki Kobori of Japan, who stayed 0.81 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 53.14 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who stayed 0.35 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 53.49 seconds.
Verlinden was chased by Robert Bollier of USA, who was 0.36 seconds away from his preceding finisher and surfaced on the wall for sixth place with an effort of 1 minute and 53.85 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Grant Irvine of Australia, who remained only a touch behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 54.11 seconds.
Irvine was followed by Michal Poprawa of Poland, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower and touched the wall for eighth place with an effort of 1 minute and 54.20 seconds.
Furthermore, Kaneda received massive admiration from the audience for his gruelling efforts and raked medal for his notable form at the prize ceremony.
