Kazuya Kaneda takes Men’s 200m butterfly gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Kazuya Kaneda of Japan took gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Japanese swimmer stifled hopes of his opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and overpowered his opponents by proving his eligibility for the crown.
He faced tough battle from his closest competitor but managed to secure the title by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 51.95 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by his compatriot, Daiya Seto, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and reached the finishing blockade as second position holder by clocking a time of 1 minute and 52.12 seconds.
Seto was followed by Thomas Shields of USA, who stayed more than half a body length away from the silver medallist and emerged on the finishing wall for third position by posting an effort of 1 minute and 52.80 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, was suffered a deficit of 0.90 seconds and settled on the wall by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 53.70 seconds.
Skvortsov was traced by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who stayed nearly three body lengths behind and occupied fifth position of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 56.47 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Viktor Bromer of Denmark, who remained one and a half body length behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 57.78 seconds.
Similarly, Bromer remained 0.17 seconds ahead of Henrique Rodrigues of Brazil, who finished his race in seventh best place and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 57.95 seconds.
Eighth best spot of the race was obtained by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who remained almost five body lengths behind and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 02.80 seconds.
In addition, Kaneda received massive appreciation from the crowd for his notable efforts and said that he would try hard to continue the same in upcoming events.
