Keegan Bradley called a “cheater” by a fan
The professional American golfer, Keegan Bradley was called a ‘cheater’ by one of the fans, on Saturday, during the Tiger Woods World Challenge.
Just when Bradley had completed the 18th hole on the third day of the tournament, a fan from the crowd was heard calling Bradley a cheater because the American used to play with anchored long-handled putters.
There have been a number of heated debates over the usage of the anchored long-handled putters, as they are considered to be a negative influence on the sport.
There are many players who have opposed the usage of the anchored long-handled putters. They say that it gives an unfair advantage to the player over someone who uses the conventional putter.
A ban on the anchored long-handled putters was imposed earlier this week by the governing body of golf, R&A. The ban will come to practice from the 1st of January, 2016.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) defended the American professional golfer by saying that the incident that took place on Saturday was a sign of immaturity on behalf of the spectator, who made such comments.
The statement given by the officials of the USGA stated that such norms are unacceptable in the sport of golf.
The officials added that the ban has not implemented as yet and under the rules of the game, the American golfer, Bradley did not break any rule in the book.
An official of the United States Golf Association said,
“We are sorry that Keegan had to experience this unfounded criticism from an obviously uneducated spectator. Instead, Keegan and other PGA Tour professionals should be commended for their maturity and grace in managing through a proposed change to the Rules
of Golf”.
He continued, “While we understand that the proposed Rules change would cause some short-term angst, we believe the new Rule would serve the long-term best interest of the game”.
Bradley said that the ban imposed by the USGA is unfair to the players who have, throughout their careers, used the belly putters. He further added that he will be taking a legal action against the decision of the ban.
