Keegan Bradley finishes second at the World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual
Keegan Bradley carded a three-under par 69, in the final round of the World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual, to finish second on the leaderboard, on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
The tournament was being played at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, offering a total prize fund of US$ 4 million, to the participants.
Starting two strokes behind the leader Graeme McDowell, the 2011 PGA champion got off to a confident start, as he birdied two of the first five holes that he played.
However, the American failed to hold on to his nerves, and faltered for a couple of bogeys on the eighth and the ninth hole.
Thereafter, he picked up pace and added another three shots to his scorecard on the 10th, 13th and the 16th hole to finish his round on a high note.
Yet, he was not able to challenge McDowell on top of the leaderboard, as the Northern Irishman stretched his lead to three strokes, after carding a four-under par 68.
Talking to the PGA Tour’s official website, Bradley praised the way McDowell played in the final round.
“It was a good battle today. Graeme just played so great,” he said. “You know, he just had one 3-putt. Other than that, he just played awesome. .. You know, you're just kind of hoping for somebody to make one bad swing or something like that. He didn't.
He played just absolutely phenomenal”.
He added, “Graeme really likes this place. He played solid all day. You know, just when I thought maybe I'd have a good chance, he'd hole a putt or hit a chip like he did on 17. You know, he's a champion, so you know, I don't expect anything less out of
him”.
Bo Van Pelt took the third spot on the leaderboard, following a 10-under par tournament score.
Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods, the defending champion and host of the event, finished further a stroke back to share the fourth position.
McDowell, Jason Day and Ian Poulter were the only three non-American players, who participated in this year’s edition of the tournament.
