Keegan Bradley in no mood to let go as he grabs the opening lead at WGC HSBC Championship
Treading high on the tide of his baffling success this year, PGA Tour rookie Keegan Bradley, apparently, is not done yet with the currents season. Pulling in another strong opening round at the WGC HSBC Championship, Bradley soared to the summit with a seven-under,
65 at the scenic Sheshan International Golf Club, Shanghai, China. He cleared the rest of the field by two shots and is now poised to clinch his fourth professional title of the year in case he keeps doing what he is doing at the moment.
"Every week, I'm amazed at who I'm around," said Bradley, "And to be in a group like that in this tournament, and to play like that on this course is very rewarding and it means a lot to me."
The young American has already won thrice this year, the HP Byron Nelson, the last major title of the year, the PGA Championship and last month’s PGA Grand Slam in Bermuda. He has now a strong chance to bag the Player of the Year title if he wins the WGC
HSBC over the weekend.
"Maybe," he said. "You know, all I'm trying to do is win this golf tournament. I know there's a lot on the line, and there's some awards to be won. I'm sure Luke is not very interested in this tournament. I'm sure he's sleeping. But I hope to keep playing
well and those fall where they fall."
Luke Donald, the world number one, who had now taken a break for his second child birth, lashed out at PGA officials after they decided to delay the PGA awards announcement till the end of the WGC HSBC Championship. Donald is at the top of the FedExCup money
list and has won two titles on PGA this year, besides being at the top of the scoring average.
American Bo Van Pelt joined Swedes Alex Noren and Fredrik Jacobson to settle for the second spot for the moment with their respective scores of 67 each. Van Pelt is also in top form after his stellar victory in Malaysia and will be hoping to put a strong
finish before the end of the season.
K.J. Choi, Thongchai Jaidee, David Toms and Justin Rose finished for 68, trailing the leader by three shots.
