Keegan Bradley rallies for a decent finish
Keegan Bradley is known for his comebacks. However, he could not launch one on Wednesday, to defend his crown at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
In fact, it was Simpson’s charge that gave Padraig Harrington a few tough moments but the Irishman held his calm to win his maiden PGA Grand Slam of Golf on his third attempt.
Nevertheless, the 2011 PGA Champion did put up an improved performance from overnight. Keegan was six shots behind the overnight leader and the eventual champion, Harrington.
He needed a miracle to pull off a victory at Port Royal Golf Club. However, a decent display of golf must have boosted his confidence.
Bradley shot an eventful four-under 67 to finish T3, along with the Masters Champion Bubba Watson.
The US Ryder Cup rookie, Bradley shot five birdies, three bogeys and an eagle in his round of 67. Had he managed to shoot a flawless round, it would have made things slightly more interesting in the closing stages on Wednesday.
Nonetheless, it was not a bad performance at all, considering his last night’s display. His highlight of the tournament has to be his eagle on the 14th hole on Wednesday.
Keegan, too, got an alternate entry into the tournament after Rory McIlroy had withdrawn, due to his commitments on the European Tour.
It was Tuesday’s performance that had already done the damage for him. When the winner is decided just over the course of two rounds, then there is absolutely no room for an error, especially at a field where all the major winners are playing.
"No matter who you are or whether you're in a tournament, watching your ball go in the hole is still a lot of fun," said Bradley.
"I just wish yesterday, if I just got off to a decent start, I think I would have been right there. But Pádraig played great. It's great to play alongside a champion like him and learn and see what he does. You know, I'm happy for him".
Bradley is still very young and new to the game. Playing alongside Padraig must have given him some confidence.
