Keegan Bradley ready for the PGA Championship title defence
The reigning PGA champion Keegan Bradley is set to repeat history, as he heads for the fourth and final major event of the year, to be held at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort from August 9 to 12, 2012.
Last year, Bradley qualified for the PGA Championship for the first time and came out victorious. He then became only the second player in the history to claim a major victory in his debut appearance, after Ben Curtis did the same in the British Open, in
2003.
Afterwards, he had to compete in PGA Tour’s Grand Slam of Golf where he defeated three of the other major winners in 2011.
"It does seem sometimes like a dream," Bradley said while reflecting on his breakthrough victory at the game's highest level. "I'm not able to watch the replays of the PGA. I get too nervous”.
Overall, it was a perfect start for the American to leave an impression on the PGA Tour during his rookie year.
This year, he once again proved himself as a quality player, as he managed to record 11 top-25 finishes – including four top-10’s – in 20 events that he has played so far.
He also lost to Bill Haas on the second extra hole in the playoffs of the Northern Trust Open early in the season.
However, he did not lose hope and kept on playing good golf. In the end, he was rewarded with a victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational just one week before his title defence at the PGA Championship.
He is now confident to repeat a similar performance, which allowed him to join the league of major winners last year.
"I'm trying to do the exact same stuff as last year," Bradley said. "The biggest key is to keep everything constant, what I've always done, and I feel as though I'm doing that.
“About this time last year is when I really started to get it rolling,” he added. “I went on a seven-month stretch of great golf. I love these golf courses at the end of the year. I love the atmosphere of major championships".
