Keegan Bradley retains halfway lead at the HP Byron Nelson Championship – Golf News
Keegan Bradley retained the lead at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, after carding a one-under par 69 in the second round, on Friday, May 17 2013.
The HP Byron Nelson Championship is being staged at the TPC Four Seasons Resort, offering a total prize purse of US$ 6.7 million, to the participants.
Bradley’s second round performance was an average one. Yet, he managed to retain the top spot, courtesy of his 10-under par score in the opening round.
On day one, his only bogeys came at the first and the 18th hole on the course. The second round also witnessed him making mistakes on the same holes, along with another lost shot on the sixth hole.
"The first hole is probably the easiest hole out here," he said. "I don't know why I keep making bogey on that hole."
At the end of the day, he found himself three strokes ahead of Tom Gillis and Sang-Moon Bae. Talking to the reporters after completing his round, Bradley said that he did not feel comfortable throughout the day. Yet, he managed
to retain the lead, which makes him feel proud of his performance.
"I'm almost more proud of this round than yesterday because I didn't feel comfortable all day," said Bradley. "I don't know what it was, I can't put my finger on it but, you know, I bogeyed the first hole. I was a little uncomfortable
and then I settled in and hit some really good shots."
HP Byron Nelson Championship is the same tournament that witnessed Bradley securing his first PGA victory during his rookie season in 2011. He is now confident to utilise his experience in the tournament to add another title to
his resume this week.
Charl Schwartzel, who was trailing Bradley by three strokes after the opening round, failed to challenge the leader on day two, as he recorded three birdies, against the same number of bogeys, to share the fourth spot on the leaderboard.
"It was a bit up and down out there," said Schwartzel. "Bit of a frustrating day, but I suppose it's the mix."
The 2011 Masters champion is now four strokes behind the pace set by Bradley.
