Keegan Bradley shoots 1-under at the Olazabal Course
It seems that the recent Belly Putter row is starting to put off Keegan Bradley. During the first round at the WGC-HSBC Champions, the 2011 PGA Championship winner did not look like a major winner. He shot a mediocre round of 1-under at the Olazabal Course.
Much debate has been going on over the use of Belly Putters. Many are calling for the club to be banned across the board and people like Ernie Els and Keegan Bradley are thinking of legal action.
It is true that the Belly Putter has in fact transformed the game of many players. Nobody knew Adam Scott until he shifted over to the Belly Putter.
In the past few years, many Belly Putter users have won the majors. Keegan Bradley won the PGA Championship in 2011, and Ernie Els won the 2012 British Open.
"I'm going to do whatever it takes to protect myself and the guys on tour, whatever that is," Bradley, 26, said at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China.
"I think we all would be together on this. We're all in the same boat. A lot of us feel strongly about the hours of practice we've put in that they're saying is basically for nothing now".
For Bradley, he must focus on his game and not what is happening off the course. These are still rumours and nothing is confirmed yet.
Last year there was a great deal of discussion on this issue as well but nothing happened. So, for now, Keegan must focus on his game and silence the critics by winning trophies, not by thinking of legal action.
At the Olazabal course on Thursday, Bradley looked just a little out of sorts – as if he was not focusing on the game properly.
His rounds at the Mission Hills included just three birdies and two bogeys. This is not what people know of him.
Bradley must ensure that he shoots low scores over the next three days to give him any chance of winning the WGC-HSBC Champions. He must focus on the five par-5s – the key to success at the course.
He is only six strokes behind on the leaderboard. If he can get back in his groove, then cutting the deficit of six strokes is not an issue for Bradley.
