Keegan Bradley takes it on the last day - WGC-Bridgestone Invitational
The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is finally over. The venue for this prestigious event was the Firestone Country Club in Ohio, USA. The Invitational started on the 2nd of August and being a four day event, it ended on the 5th of August.
The elite golfers of the world tried their best to win the trophy, but in the end there could be only one Champion. This year the trophy was bagged by the American professional golfer, Keegan Bradley.
Bradley had a bit of a slow start in the tournament. He never seemed like the winner for this tournament till the very last day. Nonetheless, he had consistent rounds and had a decent score throughout the tournament.
Before the last day started, Bradley was four strokes behind the leader of the tournament, Jim Furyk. The last day was the game changer for the 26-year-old.
Despite the slow start, the last round was the best one for Bradley. He carded just two birdies on the front nine, on the third and seventh hole. These made his score nine-under par mid way through the last round.
Bradley played a completely different game on the last nine holes. He had a strong start, as he teed off with two consecutive birdies, starting from the tenth hole. Later on the back nine, he score two more birdies, on the fourteenth and sixteenth hole.
There were no bogeys, double bogeys or eagles for the player on the day. These made his score four-under par on the back nine and his total score climbed up to thirteen-under par. The game changer for the young player was the 15-foot putt for par.
In an interview he said, “I didn't think for a second I was going to miss it. It was unbelievable. I got behind it, and I barely even had to read it. I knew the exact way it was going to break. I just needed to hit it hard enough. I knew that. And it was
dead center”.
In the end, Bradley managed to pull it off and stun everyone. He was only one stroke clear of the number 2 position holder.
