After using Firefox for a while I get "not responding" Then I have to power down. What am I doing wrong? I have uninstalled it & reinstalled the new 3.1 now but it does the same. I usually only have MSN Messenger open @ the same time, & my mail is gmail & I don't have it open.

  1. If it's an older version, try updating it to the latest version. If it's still not working, use another browser such as Opera. Or you can use another version of firefox.

  2. check your browser and firewall. Sometimes you have to change your firewall settings. I learned this from a friend when I had trouble with firefox.

  3. Has it always been like this?

    When did it start?

You mean 3.0.1 on the version right?

When its "not responding" your saying it soft locks the computer?  Are you able to go into task manager and terminate the firefox.exe process and see if it makes everythign start working again?

If you JUST got firefox, I would uninstall and reinstall.

If you have had it for awhile.  I think you might have some Malware on your puter.

Your best start is to read to this forum -

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!
