Tell me what u guys would do. I'm pissed off. I signed a 1 year contract. The school owner said his instructors were locked into a 5 year contract. 1 month after the place opens 4 instructors leave. Now three of the instructors that I wanted to train with are gone. Don't know if I should change card numbers or what? probably gonna have to keep paying.

  1. Yeah, the situation sucks, but you signed a contract.  You could consider trying to claim breach of contract, but without seeing what you signed, it's impossible to tell.

You'll be risking a huge headache if you just stop paying.

  2. B.S.  -- the primary selling point is to get training from specific instructors.  Bring it up w/ the school and ask them to let you out of the contract. Tell them that you are investigating your legal options.  They may let you cancel, give you something to stay in the school, or they will tell you no. If they refuse to let you out of contract, then investigate canceling the contract by way of rescission or revocation. Those are two ways to cancel the contract legally through your state's uniform commercial code.

  3. I think that David K gave good advice. Look at it this way if they don't want to let you out of your contract, I would not be to worried. If they have already lost that many instructors, something is very wrong behind the scene. If so they are not likely to be in business long.

One thing to keep in mind here. Next time you join a martial arts school don't sign a contract. That is one of the biggest problems and students only make it possible because they are gullible enough to buy into it.

  4. Why not keep training?  There will be new instructors, you might like them.

If your going to pay anyway, you may as well train.
