Keep cockatiel out side

Question

can anyone tell me are cockatiel a hardy bird iv got an avairy but its made of galvanise on the sides and roof the front is wire mesh would it be ok to keep them in it or would they die with the cold living in ireland

I don't know the weather in Ireland so I don't know that I can help you much.  Birds are usually okay into the 60's range of temperature if they've been allowed to properly acclimate.  

My concern sits with the galvanized wire used in the aviary.  Galvanized wire (and hardware cloth) has usually been dipped in zinc and that is highly toxic to birds.  Cockatiels are climbers and in using its beak as a "third foot", the bird is likely to ingest a pretty good amount of zinc.

Honestly I'd never do it unless I lived in a tropical climate.  I used to bring my birds outside in the summer but never permanently.

I know they are wild in Australia, come to think of it I don't know what they do over the winter.  Perhaps they can stick it out, or perhaps they migrate?

I'm not sure of the climate in your area where I am tiels are kept in outdoor aviaries and the winter temps get down into the 30's on average (Fahrenheit) .  However the aviaries are generally 2 section with access to a completly enclosed area  and then the partially open area.  In very cold weather the birds are generally confined to the fully enclosed area.  I don't know that I would recommend keeping them outside where it gets fairly cold without a fully enclosed area to the aviary.

You can try putting the birds out there and if you think they are too cold bring them back inside. Use your own better judgement on this and never risk your bird's life.

if its cold than dont put them out side and if your sure about putting them out side be careful because my anut put her budgies out side and a bee came a stung it and it died

so be sure of wat your doing if it was me i wouldn't even think of doing that after wat happend with my aunt's budgies
