I run about 7.5 - 8 miles at a time, and I keep recently getting really painful stitchesnear the start, I slow down and they fade after a while.

What causes them???? another type of cramp, do I need more salt?

  1. Not drinking enough water will cause them

How to get rid of them slow down, breath in through your nose and out pursed lips at you normal breathing rate. Drink water, but don't over do it.

  2. stretch, and breath deeply. push your diapham down into your stomach and it should go away

  3. These should help. If not, then go to runnersworld.com and look up stitch.

  4. You don't need more salt.  Potassium (bananas or a supplement) and water cure cramps.

The only time I EVER get "stitches" is if I've eaten too recently when I try to run.  If you're running 7+ miles, you shouldn't run on an empty stomach, but give yourself at least an hour after eating before running and that should solve the problem.

  5. idk wut causes them, but what i do is, when i get a stitch, i breath in thru my nose and out thru my mouth. It slows your breathing down and helps your body or something.....and you can grab the place where you have a stitch and squeeze it really tight.  It should go away as you get more endurance.  i used to get one when i ran a 10 minute mile, and now i can run a 7 minute mile.
