“Keep the ball away from Green Bay Packers” New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin tells players – NFL
New York Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, has advised his players to keep the possession of the ball as much as possible during the National Football League (NFL) playoff game against the defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers, on Sunday, January 15,
2012.
While recalling the last meeting between these two teams in which the Packers defeated the Giants, Coughlin opined on Friday, that ball possession would be the key in the game on Sunday.
He advised his players to maintain the ball possession and said that there is a need to counter Packers’ big plays.
During the last matchup, the Packers won by a difference of three points. Both the teams were levelled, 35-35, near the end of the final quarter, but the Packers managed a field goal in the last minute to achieve the victory.
Coughlin was of the view that his team was capable of scoring against the Packers. The only need, he stated, is to control Packers’ exploding offence.
“There are lots of things that have to be tweaked and done better - the end of the game plays that let them have the opportunity that they had. They made two big chunk plays there and you just can’t let that happen. You have to, first of all, be aware of
it – what they see and what they’re trying to do and where they’re trying to go and be in position to be a step ahead of them”, the coach said.
In 2007, the Giants and the Packers battled for the title of National Football Conference (NFC) championship.
The Giants defeated the Packers and went on to win the Super Bowl.
There are around 15 Giants’ players who were the part of the 2007 squad and will be present in Green Bay for another playoff game between these two sides.
Coughlin said that the young players have a great learning opportunity as they are accompanied by the veterans who were a part of the winning squad.
Both these teams have got a winning streaks at their back. Coughlin remarked that the victories have lifted up players’ morale and said that the Giants will give their best shot to beat the Packers.
