‘Keep your focus on New England Patriots,” Eli Manning urges the New York Giants – NFL News Update
New York Giants’ elite quarterback, Eli Manning, has urged his teammates not to get distracted ahead of the Super Bowl game against New England Patriots and stressed on maintaining the focus entirely on the matchup.
In his rare address to the team on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, he warned the players against getting complacent and adopting a laid back attitude and emphasised on the importance of the game.
Manning, who was also a part of the Giants’ squad that won the Super Bowl in the 2007-08 season after defeating the Pats, shared his experience with his colleagues and advised them how they could give their best shot.
The quarterback requested the players to finalise all the necessary arrangements including booking hotel rooms and air tickets for friends and family within a couple of days so as to get ready for the game preparation by Thursday.
"Just handle your business with tickets and get that stuff done, and just a few things on the mindset of this week. We have to have great preparation. Prepare this week like you are playing the game this week," he said.
The Super Bowl matchup is scheduled for February 5, 2012, in Indianapolis.
Manning informed that the team would start conducting the game meetings and training sessions from Thursday.
The Giants defeated Atlanta Falcons, the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers in the postseason to qualify for the Super Bowl XLVI.
The Giants were defeated by the Packers and the 49ers in the regular season game of the National Football League (NFL), but the score was settled in the playoffs.
The Giants also played against the Pats in the regular season and won that game. Now when these two sides are going to play in the ‘super rematch’, Manning recalled what went good for his team in the last game.
“Last time we played them our defence played outstanding, getting turnovers. We turned the ball over once in the end zone, which is always tough. I thought we did a good job of rallying back in the fourth quarter and had a couple of drives to go score and
win.”
The Giants and Patriots have performed remarkably well in the season to receive the honour of playing for the NFL title, but the best of the league is yet to be decided. Both the teams have got the services of experienced coaching staff and players, which
will be equally helpful for them in Indianapolis.
