Question:

Keeping 3 and 5 year old occupied?

I am having some friends over on the weekend and they have a 3 and 5 year old. We don't have kids and my house is small and they will probably get bored inside. What are some things I can have ready for them when they come that will keep them occupied for a time outside.

  1. baby dolls, easy puzzles, cartoon movies, coloring books, playdough

  2. colored pencils, crayons, markers, colorbooks, constuctions paper, stickers , a kiddie swimming/wading pool, good plastic toys for pool, one of those turtle sand pits.. or sand box with toys...

theres lots of things they can do.

the items i listed are pretty cheap at wal-mart.

    :DD

  3. My 3 & 5 year old will play with cardboard boxes all day long.  If there's some big ones you can cut 2 arm holes and a head hole and they'll play robots for hours.  cut them in half and pretend they're racing cars or pirate ships. Just make sure there's at least one big box each.

Of course, as everyone else has mentioned, dvds will never fail!

  4. a great thing about kids three and five is just a ball will keep them happy. maybe a little treasure hunt could keep them happy for a long time

  5. I'm watching my sister's kids: 14 and 10.  Even at this age they're a handful and a lot more expensive to watch.  LOL?

Don't fret too much, I'm sure the parents will come fully prepared to keep their kids occupied.  Remember this is a time for them to relax as well.

But just in case, get some of those big, plastic bouncy balls (kids love that) and also some bubbles.  They're inexpensive and can keep them occupied for hours, not to mention they can run around and chase the balls and bubbles....and tire themselves out!

....balloons are also cool!  But they make a loud pop...which will eventually happen, so..at your discretion.

  6. tv, board games, a friend with kids etc

  7. put some colouring pencils, or if u have concrete some chalk out there chalks washes straight off concrete, also they prob like playing like dolls n mummy's n daddy's so like old pots or something they can pretend to cook n stuff kids are preety good usually at amusing themselves at that age n there mum will probably bring something for them 2 if she is organised. Good luck

  8. some cheap toys and coloring books from the 99 cent store.a cheap rubber ball or 2. and if you have one bust out a sprinkler. i baby sit my little cousins all the time and that stuff keeps them cool for hours.

that and if u have cable just let them watch cartoons

their little kids they will probly play with rocks and sticks if they go outside no need to spend money or do work to keep them happy

  9. you could set up some videos for them to watch,

give them a ball to play with out side, a soft plastic one

um..coloring books, can get them nearly anywhere real cheap

umm, scrap paper and pens to draw with... maybe pull out

some old clothes you dont wear and they can play dress ups

    Good luck

  10. if it's raining..you can't fail with dvd's .find out their favorite shows or characters, outside you can't go wrong with giant lego's and trucks..and if you are able water toys...But a 3 yr old should have parent supervision..as should a 5 yr old..but everything except the water can go inside..good luck

  11. Hi,

Keep in mind you should always supervise kids when they are outside.

Assemble a little fort for them both to play in with chair and a sheet over the chairs. Coloring books are a great idea to keep them occupied. Little ones also love barbie dolls. Kids at that age are simple to please. Watching TV, drawing and many other simple activities will make them happy. If you have a tent or a little shelter they could play in outside that would be great. If not, you could set up a little teddy bears picnic for them with plastic cups and plastic plates and teddy bears. Another outside activity is running races. Let everyone race and they will have a blast. If you run out of things to do, Bubbles never fail. Little kids always love bubbles, it never ceases to amaze them! They would also like plastic bouncing balls. Their parents will probably come pretty prepared with lots of toys and things to keep them occupied. If they have DVD's for them to watch, this should easily occupy them! If not, take them to the video store and rent a few kids DVD's that they pick out.

If there is a local park near your house, a walk down to the park and a play at the park should tire them out (and therefore make them easier to handle for the reast of the day!).

if you are desperate you could cook a bunch of cookies and let them help you.

    Good luck,

    Hope this has helped.

  12. coloring books, crayons, construction paper or like that cool paper that comes with those markers that can only write on that like magic paper...

    a scavenger hunt.

if you have a tv and a dvd player buy some movie like...meet the robinsons or something

    (good luck)

  13. Tv.

I would say styrafoam so they could rip it up, but they'd choke and you would'nt wan't the mess.

BUBBLE PAPER! That's the best thing.

Food too, munchables, poppers i guess.

But my guess is that they won't won't to stay in one place for long.

Maybe drawing with colour pencils and paper is good too. Espesh when dora, the wiggles or barney etc. are the subject matter.

    Good luck.
