Keeping Parrotlets in pairs.....?

Question

Do they do best alone, or with another parrotlet?

I am asking this because i have a male parrotlet who is only about a year old. Would it be a good or bad idea to get him a friend? I dont want to breed them, so is it true that if you dont offer them anything for a nest that they wouldn't reproduce? Whats better? A non-breeding female and male pair, a male and male pair, or one alone?

Is it hard to introduce them?

females will lay eggs with or without a female. so be aware of egg binding. if you get a female they will mate and that is a myth about nests. they will lay the eggs in their food or on the floor.

the bird you bring home may not even like your bird.

it's NOT a good idea to just bring home another bird and slap it into the cage with your own bird. territory fights will happen.

you will have to keep the bird in a separate cage so they can get to know each other that way.

also, before you bring another bird into the home you should get it a basic physical and tests to make sure it has no infections parasites or mites. you will need an avian vet. i would also advise having the one you have done over as well.

birds get sick quickly and die because their instincts are to hide it.

you might want to consult an avian vet before you do anything further.

I agree with with This is the way ...another thing to consider is if your bird is hand tame getting another bird  (if they get along and none are ill) they could end up bonding with each other and not you. If you want your bird tame to you then I wouldn't advise it, play with, talk to and enjoy your feathered friend and give him daily attention and he should be just fine!

Well Alyssa i think if you have 2 boys or 2 girls or even a boy and a girl i think you should stick with two girls in less you want more parrotlets then the boy and girl
