Question:

Keeping a Dragonfly?

My family is renovating our deck, and we're at the painting stage. This morning I was sad to discover a beautiful darner with dry oil-based paint all over its wing. The dragonfly can't fly, obviously, but seems otherwise healthy. I love insects and it seems a shame to let it die. So I was wondering, is it possible to keep the dragonfly alive by feeding it and giving it water, or would it be kinder just to kill it and be done with it?

  1. Dragon Flies don't have a very long life span but one may be able to be kept for a short time (3-5 days) then you must let it go. I dont think that keeping a Dragon FIy is a very smat economical envestment espescialy if you dont want it to die so my advice overall is no dont keep any insect just relocate it to a safer location.

  4. You could probably put it in a tank with a screen cover or something with branches in it to hang on and keep it.  You could probably feed it little crickets, and spray it with water once or twice daily.  Good luck!  I love dragonfly's....them and praying mantis are my favorites.  More info.:

This is about praying mantis as pets, yours would probably be similar.....both predators:

  5. Insects aren't a very easy thing to keep alive.  You could try to keep it alive, but it probably won't make it.  You maybe should just leave it alone and let nature take care of it.
