  1. Assuming the earth held together, you'd have the biggest earthquake ever.  The shockwave would be unlike anything ever. Everything would crumble.  Tidal waves would inundate everything.

As for you, if you were at a pole, you wouldn't have much velocity as a result of your intertia, but if you were at the equator, you would be knocked over at roughly the speed of sound.   Not enough to go into orbit, or even get off the ground, but as soon as you hit the ground, you'd have the world's worst road rash.  You would probably die a quick and unpleasant death.

  2. You would go flying off the Earth at a tangent. That is unless you were inside a well secured building or hit something that was firmly attached to the ground, in which case you would hit it very hard!

  3. Though it goes at an incredible speed, the earth is big and so on the outermost layer is where we least feel it. We might feel a shift but we wouldn't feel much difference.

  4. Read the story "The Man Who Could Work Miracles" by H. G. Wells and enjoy it.

Mr. Fotheringay looked at the moon.

“That’s a bit tall,” he said after a pause.

“Why not?” said Mr. Maydig. “Of course it doesn’t stop. You stop the rotation of the earth, you know. Time stops. It isn’t as if we were doing harm.”

“H’m!” said Mr. Fotheringay. “Well.” He sighed. “I’ll try. Here—”
