Keeping ink IN and visible on cloth?

For my graduation party, my mom got me one of those cloth dogs with a grad cap on for people to sign when they entered the house. Is there a household product or something common that can be used on it to keep the pen ink in the cloth so that many years from now I'll still be able to see it? People just signed in regular black and red ink- they came with the dog.

*****I would think if the pens came with the dog that they are indelible and will not fade.  Usually they furnish that sort of pen with things like that.  Check the hang-tag and see if that is mentioned.
