Question:

Keeping my 1 year old from the kitchen cupboards???Child-Resista... trash cans?

My husband installed the the locks that s***w into the actual cupboard and she just ripped the screws and connecter out by pulling on the door to get to my canned foods. I've ducttaped the doors closed like i do for my drawers, but, that only lasts a day or two.

Also know where I might find a Child-Resistant trash can? My daughter also thinks it's fun to throw things away...then "take it out" while mysteriously pulling out trash w/ whatever she orginally threw away.

Any help or Good advice is greatly appriciated.

  1. my mother in law used bread ties my son cant get into her cabinet's at all and at walmart they have a "toilet lock" but you can use it for lots of things like trash cans and hampers and so on

  2. Try the magnetic cabinet locks. Safety 1st makes one called Tot-Lok, there are other manufacturers as well. They are more expensive so I would search online to try and find a good deal. They work great though! As far as the trash can either watch her and tell her no. (That's what I did, I didn't leave my daughter in the kitchen by herself when she was that young - no judgement, that's just how I handled it.) Or you could put the trash can in a cabinet, maybe under the sink?

I also found that giving my girls a couple of cabinets where they could play helped them to understand they couldn't be in "all" the cabinets. I let them play where I keep the pots and pans and where I keep our tupperware/plasticware. Whenever they would go into another cabinet I would tell them no and put them in front of "their" cabinet. It worked and eventually they learned. Good luck!
