Question:

Keeping my cat out of the window?

Okay. Here's the deal...My husband is in the Marines, and we live out in California. Everyone who knows anything about California knows how expensive apartments are. Well, the perfect apartment has opened up a one bedroom...It's got awesome wood floors, lots of cabinet space in the kitchen, pretty carpet, a fireplace, and a huge walk in closet. Every other apartment (that allows pets) wants a huge pet deposit and an added $30 per month to the rent. Plus, the rent's way higher (900 - over $1000!) Just for a one bedroom! Their apartments are ugly and gross inside, as well!

The only problem with this apartment is that they don't allow pets at all.

I have a ball python, but she's no problem. I also have a perfectly potty trained cat...and I just got him. He's two years old and neutered! We're moving in next month, and it's an upstairs apartment. So I was wondering if anyone thinks that me putting up large curtains and securing it by pinning or something will keep him out of the windows? Maybe some double sided tape along the ledging, as well? Any advice, experience, or suggestions? I really appreciate it!

  1. beg, plead, with leasing agent, tell them all the apartments that allow pets are horrid, and more expensive. And have horrible large non refundable deposits. And Congratulations on your kitty being toilet trained, I am still trying to train ours to use the "head" But the other posters are right, you never know when a maintenance man could walk in, or neighbors that don't like you complain about your cat.

  2. It might keep your cat out of the window, but if your landlord has to come in to repair something and finds you have a cat, you might be homeless.  Also, does your cat ever meow?  Your ability to keep the secret does seriously depend on the generosity of your neighbors.  I suggest your husband get himself assigned to a different marine base where you can afford to buy your own house and then you won't have to worry about nosy neighbors or rigid landlords. (I know, I know, it's probably completely unrealistic and silly of me to even suggest it  :) )  I finally bought my own house so no one could tell me if I could or could not have pets.  Good luck.

  3. I hate to be the barrier of bad news, but as a landlord if you rent an apartment that says NO PETS and you take in pet, is grounds for automatic eviction.  Sorry to say it, but I don't allow pets in my houses due to dog bites, and the destruction of property by pet, like carpets, doors, walls, and even windows.   I have had to replace it all because of the few that didn't care, it ruined it for the ones that would care.  Sorry but good luck 2u.

  4. Sticky tape might work since most cats hate the feeling of it. Also my husband (a former Marine!)  sprayed our furniture with this Cat scratching deterrent that he got a Wal-Mart that might work for your situation.

P.S. Its nice to know that another couple has a cat and a Ball Python! I thought we were weird :)

  5. a neighbor could hear the cat you never know
