Question:

Keeping squirrels out of hanging plants?

I have several potted plants hanging on my porch and just recently was able to finally keep the finches out of them (they've picked apart and killed three plants already) but just when I thought I finally had the situation handled, squirrels are in them instead! They're digging up the soil and throwing it, along with parts of the plants that they've destroyed, all over my porch. They continuously make a huge mess and are chewing my plants to death. Cayenne pepper hasn't worked, nor has moving the plants. Is there anything else short of shooting them I can do to keep them away?

  1. Moth balls may help...Why are they going in the plants anyways?

  2. some sight said to use reallly hot peppers but thats cruel.

dont shoot them either or kill.

maybe move the plants to a place thats not by a tree or roof.

like put a pole in your yard and hang the plants.

use allumminum put mesh on the plants(they can grow through but squirrels cant dig.) plastic mesh

  3. Man those animals are most funny animals to watch.

  4. Grease the sides and poles of the hanging plant.  The squirrels will not be able to have any traction and therefore will not be able to grip said hanging plant.  =]
