Question:

Keeping up with the laundry!?!?!?

Okay, like a few months ago I was concerned with organizing it. Although I know where all the dirty laundry is (and I can just grab it from the light or dark hamper), I still have trouble keeping up. Usually each day I do 2 loads of clothes (5 kids plus my hubby and I) and 1 load of towels (bath and beach) and dish towels. Usually every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I will do the blankets and stuffed animals on the beds. Everyone Monday I do sheets and pillow cases. About every 4 weeks (still on Monday) I do the comforters. Suggestions on how to plan this out so I'm not folding the loads at 11:00pm like tonight.

  1. I'm not sure how old your kids are, but maybe some of them could start doing their own laundry. My mom taught me to do it when I was 11, and I've been more than happy to do my part- that's a lot of work for one mom!

Maybe your husband could do some too, like on quiet evenings when you guys are just hanging around the house. My boyfriend and I do laundry together while watching movies, and it goes much faster with two people folding!

You could probably cut back on some of the blanket\stuffed animal washing. Use a fabric refreshener to kill bacteria and keep them smelling good! Also to cut back on ironing I use Downy Wrinkle Release (don't know if that's a problem for you). And sometimes it's ok to mix darks and lights if you're trying to consolidate 2 small loads into 1 big load- just wash with cold water instead of hot.

Hope this helps, good luck with your laundry!

  2. One thing I used to do is to make everyone hang their towel and reuse it.  They are drying there own clean bodies so I think its fine for each person to have a place to hang their towel so they can use it again. Is any of the kids old enough to help you with folding and hanging?  My grandson started helping his mom when he was about 3.  He thinks its fun.  I also don't think blankets and stuffed animals need to be washed 3 times a week.  Maybe more like every couple of weeks.  You guys can't be that dirty.

  3. Your kids are old enough to help out with the folding and putting away. My son is 4 and he puts away his own laundry and helps fold towels. He's to small to work the washer and dryer but does help me when I shift loads of wash. Between your kids and your husband you should have plenty of helpers in the house. I think the kids should be washing and putting away their own blankies and animals along with towels, etc. If you wash dry and fold the clothes your husband and the kids (at least most of them) should be able to put them away. No way should the mom be doing laundry duty start to finish. You have little helpers and now is the time to use them.

  4. Even with severe allergies washing the blankies and stuffed animals 3 times a week is excessive. Once a week is all you should need. Instead of doing all the bedding loads on Monday why not split them up through the week. Split sheets up into an extra load each day instead of doing 6 bedrooms worth in 1 day. Start laundry when you wake up and reload the machines before bed. That way your not starting your final load at 8 or 9pm. And you will be able to fold laundry with morning coffee or after breakfast. As a familt of 5 I do 3 loads a day including towels. My family doesn't reuse towels. We do bedding on Wednesday and Fridays. Its easily managable and all the laundry is done by 3pm. I recently when through the clothing and donated all the extra stuff so my laundry piles weren't unmanageable.

  5. Slow down mom!!!   First, how old are your kids?   Second your bed clothes are going to disintegrate into thin air if you keep washing them three times a week...Once a week is plenty enough.  I for one never reuse a towel that just seems gross to me so I wash a load of towels every other day.  Here's my schedule:  Mondays are bed clothes, I wash 1-2 loads of clothing a day in the morning. and the towels are every other day.  I basically do laundry everyday.  I'm sure that hubby of yours can manage folding towels and if your kiddos are big enough let them help as well.  Good Luck !

  6. The problem is that you do too much! Why are you doing the blankets and stuffed animals three times a week????

I think that is a bit excessive! Also, how many days do you make a towel last? Are you washing the towels every day?

You must be using so much water too!

  7. give your kids allergy pills and be carful what you bring in the house only somthing really strong on the air would get all over the blankets and stuff in three days
