Keiran Power-Margaret Rennell tame Kieran Appleby-Erika Rodriguez at Senior Closed Doubles
New Zealand’s experienced shuttlers Keiran Power and Margaret Rennell made their presence felt by showing their tremendous craft in Mixed Doubles battle when they tamed Kieran Appleby and Erika Rodriguez at the Senior Closed Doubles on Tuesday, August 7,
in Auckland.
The in-form Keiran and Margaret, who proved their worth throughout the championship, played to their maximum potential and easily gave a severe lesson to their opponents Appleby and Erika in a lopsided way.
The impressive Keiran and Margaret were on a different level as they played controlled and positive badminton in the whole battle and easily tamed their rivals by ending up the contest in straight games with an inspiring score on the board.
On the other hand, Appleby and Erika tried their best to show strong resistance but failed shake the confidence of their opponents and eventually bowed down to Keiran and Margaret without snatching any game.
Both couples played competitive badminton in opening rallies of first set as they played attacking game and also avoided unforced errors by taking the bird early.
However, towards the end of opening half, Keiran and Margaret played slightly better game and took a reasonable lead until the break.
After the mid-game break, Keiran and Margaret stretched the gap on score board while remaining positive and quick on court.
The in-form Keiran and Margaret were in complete control at the ending stage of opening set and they ended up the game with a 21-15 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Appleby and Erika also played with aggression as they matched the pace of rallies and did not allow their opponents to take an early lead this time.
Both couples tried their best to take control of the game but they failed to take a comfortable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, they continued playing at the same pace and remained toe-to-toe on score board until the ending phase.
At this critical stage, Keiran and Margaret played with precision and managed to take the set with a tight score of 12-19.
Keiran and Margaret emerged as victorious against Appleby and Erika by putting up an impressive 21-15 and 21-19 margin on the board.
