Keiren Westwood joins Sebastian Larsson at Sunderland as Steve Bruce eyes top six finish
Keiren Westwood, the 26-year-old former Coventry City goal-keeper, revealed he had joined English Premier League side Sunderland with intent of becoming their first choice keeper.
Westwood joins the Black Cats on a three year long contract as a free transfer after completing his contract with Coventry City.

His terrific performances and consistent form made him one of the best keepers in the second tier of English football.
He joined Coventry City in 2008 and during his time there Westwood went on to make 131 appearances in the Championship.
In his first season at Coventry City, the Irish keeper won all the Player of the Season awards, including the inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year.
The new Sunderland stopper revealed he was willing to work hard to earn a place in the starting XI at the Stadium of Light.
Westwood said while speaking to reporters:
“Getting released by [Manchester] City as a 19-year-old was the kick up the backside I needed. It gave me the hunger and desire to prove a lot of people wrong.
I've come here to play first-team football. I know it'll be a tough contest with the other lads who are vying for the shirt and it's all about competition.”
Westwood is amongst the many players arriving at Sunderland during this summers transfer window.

The former Birmingham City midfielder said he was looking forward to helping the club reach its ambitions in the upcoming season.
According to Steve Bruce, Sunderland have set their sights on a top six finish in the English Premier League, which will guarantee a place in Europe next season.
Larsson said in an interview:
“This is a huge club with big ambitions and it's heading in the right direction. I'm looking forward to working with the manager again.”
