Keith http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Barker-c47300 signs three-year contract extension with Warwickshire – Cricket News Update
The promising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Henderson-Barker-c70622, on Wednesday penned a new three-year contract extension with the Bears.
The 25-year-old Lancashire-born left-handed batsman and a handy left-arm medium pace bowler, who did not sign an extended deal offered last autumn, is now committed to Edgbaston until the end of the 2015 county season.
The highly rated all-rounder, who has been out of contract till Wednesday this season, wanted to earn a better offer this season and vindicated that with some impressive performances with the ball. In seven LV=County Championship
matches so far this season, Barker has claimed 32 wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 in Liverpool, his first ever five-for in a first-class game. The left-arm medium pacer also bagged his first 10-wicket haul this season,
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 at Edgbaston.
His starling early season championship form was noticed by a number of counties, including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852, but the former Lancashire academy player turned down the offers and decided to stay part of the promising young seam attack at Edgbaston.
The all-rounder and the Warwickshire management agreed upon the terms earlier this week, and the signing was disclosed on Wednesday.
It would have been a huge surprise for his fans as well as sport pundits had the 25-year-old all-rounder decided not to remain under the tutelage of director of cricket Ashley Giles, under whom his all-round game improved hugely,
and bowling coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graeme-Welch-c60527, under whom his left-arm swing bowling has seen considerable improvement.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Fraser-Giles-c46314, Warwickshire's director of cricket, expressed excitement over the signing and hoped the all-rounder will continue with his good form.
"It's great news for the club that Keith has committed for another three years. He's worked incredibly hard and shown great commitment to improving his game in his training with Graeme Welch over the last two years,” said Ashley Giles
while speaking to media reporters.
"The team have certainly reaped the rewards for his efforts, particularly in the LV County Championship. He's matured as a cricketer and has taken great confidence out of leading the attack with Chris Wright in the early part of the
season. Everyone is delighted he is remaining at the club," he added further.
