Keith Earls and David Hurley return to Munster
Keith Earls and David Hurley will return to the Munster team for their Heineken Cup game against London Irish at the Madjeski Stadium tomorrow, October 9.
Earls returns for his first game since the semi-final of last season’s Magners League match. The British and Irish Lions winger has since been out with ankle and groin injuries.
Munster manager Tony McGahan has changed a number of his backs. Tomas O’Leary has pulled out with an injury and Peter Stringer has been recalled. Lifeimi Mafi is suspended and as a result, the Munster back-line will be shuffled about. Earls will play in
the centre, while Hurley will move to the wing. Paul Warwick is the player that loses out and Johne Murphy moves from the wing to full-back.
The side will be delighted with Earls’ return, who’s pace and elusive running will add a cutting edge to Munster.
Assistant coach Mick Galway said, "It's great to have Keith back. He did a full session on Tuesday and came through. The only concern would, of course, be match time. He hasn't had any of that for a long time.”
“But it's great to have him back in the match day squad, particularly when you think of the injuries we have. It's important to get back as many players as we can,” he added.
London Irish is confident that they can ruin Earls and Hurley’s return to the Munster side, and the Exiles coach Toby Booth said, “Despite Munster’s reputation, we are confident in our own ability and have prepared for the match exceptionally well.”
“We believe that on our day, we can be a handful for any team, whatever their history, and I am expecting an excellent game of rugby. We are predicting great support and a big crowd and I would encourage our supporters to come out in force.”
