Kell Brook scheduled to defend his title and undefeated streak against Carson Jones – Boxing News
Kell Brook, the WBA intercontinental and IBF international welterweight champion, will collide with fellow countryman Carson Jones, the current USBA welterweight champion, in a 12-round bout to be held on July 7, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, which will be televised live on Sky TV. The ring for the showdown will be set up at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom and will also witness
Kerry Hope defend his EBU (European) middleweight title against Grzegorz Proksa while constituting the co-main event.
Kell and Carson recently bashed each other in a media interaction and resolved to give an explosive showdown to the British boxing fans. Kell, 26, boasts an undefeated streak in a total of 27 bouts.
The young Briton has pinned 18 of his opponents by knockout and proudly resides at World Boxing Organisation’s sixth rank. Brook will put his newly acquired IBF international welterweight gold on the line for the very first time.
Also known as ‘The Special One’, Kell snatched the IBF gold recently by nailing Matthew Hatton via unanimous decision. During the media interaction, while putting forth his thoughts, Brook praised Jones for being a quality pugilist and stated, “He’s had
some good knockouts lately. He’s been over to people’s back yards before and knocked them out. He’s very confident, I can tell that, and the fans are in for a real treat because I'm going to meet him head-on.”
Kell’s Saturday night opponent, Carson, has achieved much in a very small age. Jones, 25, has already entered 46 bouts, emerging victorious in 34. The young lad has pinned 24 of his opponents by knockout and therefore not only has an upper hand in experience
but also in the knockout proficiency as well.
Since his last loss to Rogerio Pereira, Jones has generated an eight-bout win streak and has evolved into a talented brawler with least flaws. While putting forth his thoughts, Carson adopted an aggressive stance and stated, “This kid is confused about what
he is up against. There is no quit in me, which is why I am in this position I am in right now. I never gave up. It's the last step for him, or for me, towards a world title shot. He’s the only man in front of my dream and I’m not going to take no for an answer.”
Carson will try his level best to bring his agenda and dreams to fruition but in order to do so he needs to first obliterate Kell who will not keep things simple at all. For Brook, the bout will be a tough test as he not only has to defend his title but
also his undefeated streak as well.
