Troy Kelly Fires 62 at Round Three, moves to the second position
In the past few years, Troy Kelly had his share of problems. In 2010, he underwent a hip surgery, which had been hampering his game for a long period of time.
Playing in his 34th PGA event, Greenbrier Classic, Kelly shot a brilliant 8-under 62 to finish at the second place, only two shots behind the leader Webb Simpson.
Simpson is sitting comfortably at the top with 14-under, having shot 5-under 65 on day three.
Coming into the tournament, Kelly was not in very good form. He has played fourteen events so far and managed the cut in only 6 of them.
Currently, Kelly is ranked at 225th on money earned list and only first 125 players will get the tour card for the next season. A win here will go in a long way to secure Troy’s PGA card for the next season.
Troy always had trouble with his putts. This season, too, he has been putting poorly but this time around, he was in fine touch.  This is how he felt after round three,
"I have not made a lot of putts pretty much the whole year," Kelly said. "It is just good to see some putts go in. I had fun today".
Coming back from such severe injuries is really demanding, and all the credit goes to Troy for putting up such a brilliant display of golfing skills.
On the other hand, there was no good news for Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as they missed the cut. However, this may prove to be a blessing in disguise for them, as they now have a few extra days to prepare for the British Open.
One interesting thing is that Kelly’s brother is his caddy. Kelly was full of praise for his brother, Ryan Kelly. Ryan has been playing golf professionally.
"We have played competitively against each other since I could walk basically and he is been a big help," Troy said of his brother. "He reads greens really well. ... You have got to make putts out here and it is just nice having him around."
It would be an interesting final round at the Old White TPC course, as things are very nicely poised for the final day.
