Kelly Pavlik returns after 10 months against Aaron Jaco in 10-round bout – Boxing news
Kelly Pavlik, the former middleweight champion, has decided to make a comeback after the lapse of 10 long months and will take on Aaron Jaco in a non-title 10-round bout on March 31, 2012.
The announcement was made by Top rank spokesperson Lee Samuels, recently while putting forth the media the whole “Top Rank Live” pay-per-view. Kelly is considered as one of the most versatile pugilists in middleweight division who successfully defended the
division’s apex title three times.
Kelly’s nightmare started when he lost his WBC and WBO middleweight title to Sergio Martinez in 2010 and since then he has brawled just one opponent that is Alfonso Lopez.
The American 29-year-old was overwhelmed by the bloody loss against Martinez so much so that he decided to leave the division and move up in the super middleweight class.
In his last bout against Alfonso on May 7, 2011, Kelly came out victorious via majority decision. It was a decent start for ‘The Ghost’ but afterwards a severe rib injury and a ‘Driving Under Influence’ (DUI) litigation shattered Pavlik’s dreams.
Despite all the bad luck and a 10-month gap, Kelly still secures eighth rank in World Boxing Organisation’s super middleweight rankings. Pavlik’s brawling abilities are evident from his intimidating resume. He has been in a total 39 bouts and has won 37
of them.
The orthodox pounder has collected a whopping 32 wins by knockout. Kelly’s manager Cameron Dunkin, while explaining the current prime position of his man said that Kelly did face tough time, he had to go for rehab twice, was apprehended for DUI allegations,
and even had some serious contractual problems with Top Rank but now he is a totally different man.
Cameron said that he has come a long way and has left the bad memories behind adding that his whole concentration now lies at re-emerging the scenario and start his reign over the super middleweight division. Dunkin remarked, “He’s going to fight and he’s
just excited.”
At the same time Bob Arum, owner Top Rank, also threw optimistic comments regarding Kelly. It must be noted that Arum and Kelly had a strenuous relationship since Kelly tossed away a hefty $1.35 million deal to bout Lucian Bute, a decision that seriously
raged Arum.
Bob commented, “Kelly has been working very hard at his training camp in Oxnard, California, and hopefully this will be the beginning of his re-emergence into boxing at the top level.” Pavlik’s trainer also thinks the same and is pretty confident at Kelly’s
determination. Robert Garcia, Kelly’s trainer, commented, “Kelly is ready. He is strong and he wants to get back into the ring to compete.”
According to the details, Kelly will take on a somewhat rookie Aaron at Illusions Theater situated in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The show will be on aired live on Azteca America network on March 31, 2012.
