Kelly Pavlik scheduled to take on Scott Sigmon in ESPN2’s Friday Nights Fight show – Boxing News
Kelly Pavlik, the former WBC and WBO middleweight champion, will enter the ring to take on the surging young fellow countryman Scott Sigmon, the current WBC United States (USNBC) super middleweight champion, in a non-title 10-round bout which will be held
on Friday June 8, 2012.
The duo will headline the hefty bout-stacked pay-per-view which is being jointly organised, promoted and presented by Corona Extra and Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions.
The fight card will be televised live on ESPN2’s weekly boxing show Friday Night Fights and will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Jesse Magdaleno and Carlos Valcarcel.
The ring for the extravaganza will be set up at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Sigmon recently shared his short but to-the-point view on grabbing a win over his Friday night opponent Kelly.
Scott, 25, is a surging young American pugilist who has been in a total 25 bouts and boasts 22 wins. The Virginia lad has revamped and evolved himself into an entirely different and talented pugilist since his last career loss to Chris Fitzpatrick.
Also known as ‘The Cujo’, Sigmon is on a six-bout win streak and in his third last bout grabbed the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) super middleweight title by technically knocking out Jimmy Campbell in the third round.
Scott moved on and defended his title twice against pretty respectable names such as Jonathan Reid and Carlton Holland. While sharing his technical analysis on Pavlik, Scott commented that he will undergo a totally different brawling style adding that he
will nail the Ohio veteran in a unique way.
Sigmon stated, “The two guys that have been successful against Pavlik (Bernard Hopkins and Sergio Martinez) moved laterally a lot, counterpunching and timing. But I’m not that guy, so I’m going to have to do it a different way than it’s ever been done… If
this fight plays out the way I think it will, this will be an early candidate for ‘Fight of the Year.’”
The orthodox Scott might be right in his claim but only if Pavlik, also known as ‘The Ghost’, gives him enough time to follow his game plan. Kelly is entering the ring with an experience of 40 bouts. The 30-year-old has lost just two bouts in his career
and has collected 33 of his total 38 wins by sheer knockout.
Therefore as far as the technicalities and stats are concerned the odds are in favour of Kelly who has also constructed a two-bout win streak since his last loss to Sergio Gabriel Martinez.
