Why is there so much difference in car values between KBB and NADA

I priced a car on Kelly Blue Book and it was $5000 more on NADA.

What percentage of people and dealerships use KBB and NADA

  1. I was in the auto insurance business for years.

We used both books in determining VALUE of a particular vehicle to charge them an appropriate amount on the insurance, usually for REPAIR costs...which can easily be worth MORE than the car itself.

Sometimes they are the same, sometimes they are very different.

Also, READING one isn't that easy.

A particular vehicle can have SEVERAL models.....one pretty much a MatchBox Car......while the top model has all the electric stuff, bigger engine, air-con, top of the line interior, special wheels, etc...that can make a value JUMP extremely.

But the bottom line is.....what you will actually GET for it, what someone is willing to PAY for the car.... is the ACTUAL value.... which ain't NEVER what either of the books SAY.

The best way of determining value is checking several auto places and SEE what they would actually give you for a trade in.
