Kelly pavlik vs Joe calzaghe would be like Vitali Klitschko vs danny william?

I remember when danny william ko a 39yrs old tyson and then was over hyped until he fought a great champion in his prime called Vitali Klitschko

Joe calzaghe never even beat Bernard Hopkin but however, he did get the decison.

I know for a fact that calzaghe want to avoid Kelly pavlik and probably interested in fighting some other washed up fighter such as roy jones or even taylor.

But if calzaghe want respect, then he need to fight pavlik who is 2 weight lower than him but 4 inch taller than him, with a longer reach.

Calzaghe will get his respect once he fight a a good champion that is in his prime.

The fight with hopkin was a blow out for him even though he got the decision, even in the press conference, hopkin criticise joe for fighting no-body or over the hill fighters when joe said he might fight Roy Jones or taylor in his next fight.

I personally feel the fight will be a mis-match for calzaghe if he fight pavlik but he deserve repect for atleast trying

Joe Calzaghe is fighting fights with the biggest purse string dude now. For many years he fought and defended his title with little recognition. So unless Pavlik can draw that kind of interest he is unlikely to face him. I see what your seeing though dude and its cool. But don't write Joe off....Jeff Lacy made that mistake.

Correct!if Joe dares to step inside with Kelly,he's finished and he knows it.Already the Calzaghe apologist are using HIS age now as an excuse for not wanting to go in with Kelly and even if he does next year the excuses are already for his defeat.Ive studied the Calzaghe hype for sometime now and have seen everyone of his fights,2 i believe he lost,Hopkins and Robin Reid,and nothing will convince me he is a star the Brits are making him out to be,nice guy yes,boxing superstar and legend,sorry no.He simply has not faced any truly world class,prime fighters to get that credit,maybe not all his fault,but that's the price he and Warren will pay for a fairly easy 10years,even Eubank was 10 yr older than him when he won the title off him and well past it.I doubt the Pavlic fight will ever materialise because now all he and his team are interested in,as Calzaghe said himself last Saturday,is 'legend busting'what a joke blowing out has been s to make himself look good,how sad.

Pavlic would make short and brutal work of calzaghe,i say ko late rounds,at this level of fighter joe's handbagging technique would be exposed and Pavlic's destuctive punching to much,remember Miranda?

Another example of American bias. Kelly is a good puncher and strong, but would easily be outboxed by Joe. Some of you guys need to remember Jeff Lacy, who you all thought would murder Calzaghe, but he was taken to school. Do you think Pavlik would beat Lacey, or even Hopkins??...not to sure now I bet!...Remember a good boxer will usually beat a great fighter! Has Kelly been tested yet, other than Taylor?....it seems Pavlik would have a 'punchers chance' , if he can get his opponent into a brawl, but what would he do with a guy who uses his brains?

Pavlik only has a punchers chance against Joe. What does joe have to do to convince anyone? Beat King Kong? I see you're all talking about him though, amd i bet if he was american you would show him more respect.

He would outpoint Pavlik easily and has expressed a real interest in fighting him. But remember Joe is 36 so it might not happen. He tried for years to get the big fights and everyone made all manner of excuses not to fight him.

Danny Williams is IMO not a great fighter and v dull to watch. I don't think you can compare Danny Williams to Calzaghe they're completely different boxers!

A match against Pavlik would be a toughy, I'm not sure whether Calzaghe would succeed...I'd like to think so though!

How can you say Calzaghe needs to fight Pavlik to gain respect? Who has Pavlik beaten? Taylor has struggled since beating hopkins and was not the same fighter. Calzaghe has beaten great champions and ex champions over the past 10 years and is still undefeated. Lacy had more "hype" than Pavlik has and look at what happened there. Pavlik needs the Calzaghe fight more than Calzaghe needs him. Joe is already an "hall of famer" and is only going out for the big pay cheques from fights like Hopkins and jones jr now as they ducked him when they were in there prime. The tables have turned now and these fighters aren't top pound for pound fighters any more and now want calzaghe as now they have nothing to lose.

As for Pavlik, he is a nobody and needs to get a number and get in line for calzaghe. in fact i think calzaghe stablemate Gary Lockett will beat Pavlik and all the hype around him will end.

Joe Calzaghe is a modern day great and deserves respect for all his acheivements he is a proven champion and should be put into the same category as Hopkins, Jones Jr. If not higher.

1) Joe Calzaghe won quite convincingly in his fight against Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins was basically in a defensive shell from the 3rd round on. It is very difficult for any fighter to look good whether they are at a elite level or not if the fighter they are facing throws twenty punches a round.

2) If Pavlik fights Calzaghe in the next year I would have to go with Joe by a decision. However, the more time that passes the better it will be for Pavlik as he will continue to improve, and Calzaghes attributes will most likely diminish. (speed, Calzaghes single biggest advantage is the first thing a fighter loses as he ages)

I am going to give the devil his due here.

Joe did survive ten years with that belt...he should retire it and his "0" on his own terms. I can imagine he didnt always have great fights.

Truth be known, either Taylor or Pavlik could likely take Calzaghe. Taylor is considerably stronger and faster than Joe, and much more combative.

Pavlik, at this point its almost suicide to ask anyone to take on this kid right now. Granted he is somewhat unproven, what he has shown is the most dangerous thing ANY boxer could have, he can turn a fights momentum in ONE punch.

No one, not even Joe, wants to face that.

I disagree. Joe is a boxer. Kelly is a puncher. It will be a competitive match. It could go either way. Kelly can KO Joe or Joe can steal a decision from Kelly like he did many times before.
