And please write from personal experience.

Where is a good place to rent an apt? What is the typical cost of a 1 bedroom? Where are good places to buy 'healthy' foods? Are there any little bars there that have 'jam nights'? Where's a good coffee house that is NOT Tim Horton's? How bicycle friendly is the city?

Thanks.

  1. www.city.kelowna.bc.ca for all the info you need

  2. I've never actually been into the city so I couldn't tell you. My cousins live on a vineyard up there, so thats really the only place i've been to. I dont know if they have a Whole Foods up there, but thats where you buy all the organic stuff. But you can buy Healthy food anywhere you go...except maybe McDonalds.

  3. Trying to rent in Kelowna can be a frustrating experience. The vacancy rate is very low (about 0.2%) and rent is very high. A 1 bdrm basement suite in a decent area can run upwards of $900 a month, and a larger apartment can go for 1500 or higher. If you want to live a little further from the downtown, Rutland (east Kelowna) is semi rural and a little cheaper, but is 20-30 minutes from town.

Lots of health food stores, farmers markets, etc. There are several small bistros and coffee shops in the downtown core, and the ubiquitous Starbucks on every corner, of course. Traffic gridlock in the summer is a fact of life in Kelowna, so the city has become more bike friendly. The major streets have bike lanes, or at least shared areas, and local motorists are used to lots of bikes. Also a lot of bike/pedestrian trails near the lake and out of town. Check out the Kettle Valley Railway trail for an awesome biking experience.
