Kelsey Chan wins Girls 200yard freestyle gold – High School State Championships
Kelsey Chan of LINC won gold medal of the Girls 200yard freestyle in Juniors category on day one of the 2012 High School State Championships in San Francisco, California on Tuesday, May 1.
Chan remained considerably ahead of her challengers throughout the four-lap freestyle event. With her epic performance, she devastated hopes of her challengers and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.95 seconds.
Her wonderful swim remained nearly thirteen seconds ahead of Sara Tran of BAL, who ended her swim in second best place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 28.12 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Amanda Li of LINC, who stayed 1.75 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 29.87 seconds.
Li was chased by Courtney Leung of LOW, who stayed almost five seconds behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 34.29 seconds for fourth position.
Leung was followed by Natalie Louie of LOW, who proved her eligibility for fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 35.26 seconds.
On the other hand, Jonathan Nguyen of LINC seized the title of equivalent event in Boys category. Nguyen stayed nearly 1.30 seconds away from his former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.96 seconds.
He was trailed by Steve Jong of BAL, who remained one and a half body length slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.27 seconds.
Jong was chased by Anthony Chiu of LINC, who stayed nearly seven seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 19.76 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Hanson Dang of LOW, who stayed nearly ten seconds away and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 29.55 seconds while Justin Lee ended fifth with an effort of 2 minutes and 31.64 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events in Boys and Girls category.
