Kelsey Conci impresses in Women’s 100m backstroke heats: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Kelsey Conci of Wyoming Aquatics impressed her supporters in the qualifying rounds of Women’s 100m backstroke on day three of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 22-year-old Conci served notice of her talent in the double lap backstroke discipline. With her fascinating efforts, she managed to outperform her strongest challenger over the finishing end for first position.
She continued her nerve-wrecking pace in the second lap of the discipline and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 02.49 seconds.
Her mind-blowing effort remained just 0.10 seconds ahead of Olivia Smoliga of Glenview Titan Aquatic Club, who proved her mettle for second best spot by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.59 seconds.
Similarly, Smoliga was chased by Keaton Blovad of Phoenix Swim Club, who stayed nearly one and a half body length behind and earned third qualifying position of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 03.96 seconds.
Fourth finest qualification spot of the race was secured by Lacey Locke of Carmel Swim Club, who was only 0.13 seconds slower and reported an effort of 1 minute and 04.09 seconds.
Locke was chased by Caroline Rodriguez of Rockwood Swim Club, who was 0.11 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing wall as fifth best finisher with the timing of 1 minute and 04.20 seconds.
The 26-year-old Rodriguez was trailed by Hailey Campbell of Una UVRA-UT, who was only 0.06 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 04.26 seconds for sixth position.
Campbell remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Rowan Hauber of Phoenix Swim Club, who secured seventh position of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 04.45 seconds.
Eighth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Alyssa Busch of Oakland University, who was 0.30 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 04.75 seconds.
Furthermore, these qualifying swimmers will compete with each other in the playoff where the position holders will be awarded medals and accolades.
