Kelvinder Singh looks hopeful for return to the Malaysian national hockey team – Hockey News
Kelvinder Singh, the mid-fielder of the Malaysian national hockey team, is quite confident regarding his comeback to the national squad as he has missed out the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy in China, due to some injury and fitness problems.
The mid-fielder had suffered a knee injury during the World Cup qualifiers held in Invercargill, New Zealand in 2009 and remained out of the national side for most of the time missing two important tournaments, Commonwealth Games held in India and Asian
Games held in China. The mid-fielder featured in the national squad in four friendly matches against Spain in the month of July where he scored in each and every game, however, he did not impress Tai Beng Hai, the coach of the national team, in the five match
test series against the Japanese national team and therefore was dropped from the Asian Champions Trophy squad.
Singh is one of those four senior and veteran players who were dropped from the visiting side in China due to the injury concerns and fitness problems so that they might recover from their injuries and be in good silhouette prior to the more important future
assignments, Champions Challenge I and Olympic Qualifiers. The other three players include Hafifihazif Hanafi, Roslan Jamaluddin and Azlan Misron.
The 26-year-old mid-fielder, Kelvinder Singh stated that he was very disappointed not to participate in the Asian Champions Trophy in Ordos, China.
“I was hoping to continue from where I left off in Spain ... I was disappointed at being left out of the Asian Champions Trophy,” the seasoned mid-fielder, Kelvinder Singh, shared his views on missing the prestigious hockey event in Asia.
“I will now focus on regaining my spot in the national team. I’m working hard and I have been following the training programme that the coach had prepared for me. I’m working out in the gym and following the National Sports Institute (NSI) fitness programme
as instructed by the coach.”
It will be interesting to see what impact Singh will have once he gets another chance to play with the national side in the upcoming hockey tournaments.
