http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in May this year, has said that the ten-wicket haul claimed against Australia, in Trinidad is something he will cherish throughout the rest of his career.
After an unimpressive 2011 year, which saw him claim only 7 wickets from four Tests, at an average of 55.14, the Barbadian hit the ground running this year, picking up 19 wickets in three Tests against Australia, at home, including a 10-wicket haul, at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad.
“Performance in Trinidad is sort of a benchmark for me,” Roach was quoted as saying, ahead of the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, commencing at North Sound, Antigua, today, July 25.
“It was the first ten-wicket and my best overall in Test cricket so that is something I’ll remember throughout the rest of my career," he added further.
The 24-year-old right-arm speedster, hailing from Barbados, said that claiming ten wickets on Queen’s Park track, which offered minimal assistance to the bowlers, boosted his confidence to do well even in the situations where “the odds are against you”.
“It came on a pitch that wasn't really offering a lot to fast bowlers so I’d to dig deep and make it happen,” said Roach of his figures of 10 for 146 against Australia, in March.
"It taught me a lot and the greatest lesson was how to work when the odds are against you. Some days the ball comes out and does exactly what you want. Other days you have to make it happen, so I'm prepared to make it happen," opined the Barbadian.
Roach, the veteran of 19 Tests and 41 One day Internationals, is currently West Indies’ leading Test wicket-taker with 27 scalps in five Tests, at an average of 24.04.
The fast bowler, returning from an injury layoff of almost two months, signalled a return to complete fitness with a devastating performance against New Zealand in a drawn three-day tour match, over the weekend, where the Barbadian pacer returned with figures of 4 for 34 from 17 overs, as the tourists were reduced to 149 in their first innings.
