Kemba Walker, Brandon Knight: The rising stars in the NBA draft 2011 (Part-1)
The National Basketball Association draft 2011 is just round the corner as the teams with the top picks prepare themselves to land the best talent from the available pool. There are number of outstanding players with a proven history
of excellence and are presently showcasing their talent in the ongoing NBA workouts.
Even thought the league is heading towards the lock out uncertainty due to the expiry Collective Bargaining Agreement on 30th June, however the NBA draft is scheduled on 23rd of June which won’t stop the event
from taking place.
The rising stars on the board in this year’s draft are discusses below.
Kemba Walker
University of Connecticut Huskies’ prolific point guard Kemba Walker is known for his offensive prowess and exceptional ball handling skills. The 21 year old Walker will surely be a big asset for any team especially for those who
are looking to stimulate their offensive system. Kemba’s agility and strength has no match which hampers the defensive system of the opposition.
In his third season with Huskies, Walkers transformed himself into a formidable scoring threat with an average of 23.4 points per game. The sharp-shooter led the University of Connecticut for the NCAA championship this year and
due to his dominating game-play, Walker was honoured with the most outstanding player of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Walker worked out with Brigham Young University’s star player Jimmer Fredette for the Utah Jazz on Wednesday which was an exciting matchup.
Fredette said after working out with Kemba, “It was great. He’s a great competitor. Obviously a quick guard, a guy who knows how to win. And that’s something I know how to do as well. So it was a great matchup. A lot fun to
play against him, great guy. We’re great friends off the court and we compete on the floor, so it was a lot of fun.”
Walker is not just a prolific scorer; he also carries the ability to power the team on the rebounds and assists. The 6 foot 1 inch might not be the tallest however his versatile game-play is what makes him a big threat. If Jazz
does not go for a big man with their number 3 pick, Kemba might start his NBA career with Utah.
Brandon Knight
After Duke’s influential superstar Kyrie Irving, the University of Kentucky’s Brandon Knight is termed as the best point guard on the board. The most dominating aspect of Knight’s game-play is that he carries the team commandingly
on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court.
NBA’s co-scouting director Ryan Blake said on the youthful talent of Brandon, “He does know how to lead a team, run an offense and play defence,"
Minnesota Timberwolves will be entering the draft with the second pick overall and the prolific point guard Knight will be a strong consideration for them. Brandon is expected to be drafted in the top 5 and if Wolves pick some
other guy, the 19-year-old star player will land on the radar of Utah Jazz.
