Kemba Walker and Brandon Jennings Spark up Downtown New York – NBA Update
Last night saw two young and upcoming NBA stars take their game to the street courts in New York. Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats and Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks were in the Bronx last night to play a summer league
game in the Dyckman Park league.
The players described the experience as very exciting.
"It was fun. It's always fun coming to Dyckman," said Kemba Walker. He was on target throughout the night as he racked up 36 points in a 109-106 victory over the Dominican Power.
Walker explained that he was motivated to play once he got to know that Brandon Jennings wanted to play as well. The Charlotte Bobcats number nine draft pick stated that it was a highly competitive game and made it known that the
atmosphere in such games is always indescribable.
“It's intense. Everyone is trying to win, to go at each other. It's New York City basketball," he continued. "I just get hyped. It's exciting to play. There's nothing like this. Not college basketball. Not the NBA. It's different.
You got guys running on the court, acting crazy. Nothing can describe it."
The night witnessed the pros make some terrific plays for e.g. Jenning’s fabulous drive to the net, which saw him cross over a defender and fake a behind the back move before laying it up.
However, the pros had to face moments of embarrassment as well. It reached a pinnacle when Jennings fumbled an inbound pass and presented an easy scoring opportunity for the opponent. Both Walker and Jennings were seen smiling
after the incident. Even Walker had his moment when he missed an easy dunking opportunity and giggled.
Brandon Jennings was also joined by his fellow New Yorker Erving Walker, who netted 27 points and was on fire from the three point range, scoring five in total.
Erving Walker played with two point guards and hence often found space and the opportunity to shoot. "I just had to play with confidence. They were giving me the shots and I was getting to the lane. I just took what the defense
gave me," he said.
Jennings described that he had been playing in such matches of late and that he really enjoyed the whole setup. "I've been playing everywhere else. When you come to places like this, you're earning people's respect, and then they
want to see if you can hoop," said the 21 year old Milwaukee Bucks star
He also said that the people of the Bronx might never be able to watch an NBA game in their life, and this was a good gesture to them as they get to see the pros play live and also interact with them.
Both Kemba Walker and Brandon Jennings are not expected to sign any overseas contract and with the lockout in effect, this seems to be the platform where they might be applying their trade this time around.
