Kemba Walker not dwelling on the struggles of last season with Charlotte Bobcats – NBA Update
Kemba Walker’s first season in the NBA was not the ideal start to his career as his team Charlotte Bobcats put up a win-loss record of 7-59, the worst winning percentage in league’s history.
However, the 22 year old point guard wants to make last season a thing of the past, move on, and be a leader of the new looks Bobcats.
"As soon as the season ended, seven wins went to the back of my mind really," Walker said, "Now I know what it takes to win basketball games in the NBA and I'm working extra hard to become the best player I can be."
He will have to achieve his ambitions without D.J. Augustin who went over to the Indiana Pacers as Charlotte withdrew their qualifying offer for him. Walker does not want to be dreading on the past and feels that even though he
felt comfortable playing with Augustin but the business decision made by the Charlotte management is something he has to accept.
In the coming season, Walker will be working with two new faces. The Bobcats hired Mike Dunlap as the new head coach early in the off season and then drafted Michael Kidd- Gilchrist with their second overall pick on June 28.
The player feels that he has already developed an instant connection with Dunlap. According to him, Dunlap’s new strategy to adapt to a more fast paced style of play can be beneficial for the Bobcats as the whole team is very young.
It is likely that Walker will play more as a backup point guard in that system due to Ramon Sessions’ arrival. He also went to praise Kidd-Gilchrist, who will be the pivotal piece of the franchise come next season;
"I've played against (Kidd-Gilchrist) in high school, I've seen him grow as a player for a long time," Walker said. "He's a great person. High character. He's a great kid. That's the thing that (owner Michael Jordan), (GM) Rich
(Cho) and (president) Rod (Higgins) are trying to do is bring a lot of high character guys and he's one of them."
As ambitious as Walker may seem, Charlotte are going to be facing the tough task in the coming season. Their roster is still raw and forming a winning tradition in team, which changes its players on a consistent basis is very difficult
if not impossible.
